Since November of 2020, The Cooperage Project has been providing monthly prepared meals for seniors (60+) of Wayne County, with funding support from The William E Chatlos Foundation. We collaborate with the Wayne County Area Agency on Aging to serve a population that makes up over 30% of our residents -- and we have zero income requirements. All you have to do is sign up!
Dozens of dedicated volunteers as well as our staff make this huge program possible. We take registration monthly for the meals, work with local farmers and producers to purchase local ingredients, and prepare each meal in our commercial kitchen with our team. Meal recipients are able to pick up their meal in-person or receive delivery from a volunteer. Volunteers deliver to Wayne County residents who are homebound or isolated by limited or no means of transportation.
We are feeding more than just stomachs; we’re feeding souls and connecting them back to the community that they once served themselves. Our staff and volunteers have become “information resource technicians” by talking to residents, hearing their concerns, and directing them to services in the area that can help their needs.
